Saturday, 16 October 2004 7:00PM

Proposed Symposium subjects this year will be twofold, encompassing "Head Types of the Bengal Cat" and a presentation on colors and how to determine them by the well known Dr. Heather Lorimer, Associate Professor of Genetics at Youngstown State University. We will have a video looking at heads of everything from the alc to the SBT Bengal, as well as a presentation on how to determine proper color in the cat.

Cost is $37 (Judges receive CEU credit) and includes dinner. As always, all of the presentations will be summarized and bound in a booklet form and presented to every Symposium participant, along with the beginning of a new souvenir. Instead of the mugs (they were just getting too heavy and unwieldy), we are going to pewter On Safari pins designed especially for OS. Limited past mugs are still available.

The Cats of the Finger Lakes Cat Club has generously offered us the show raffle on Friday and Saturday this year, which will seriously boost On Safari revenue. Please, please offer your raffle items so that there will be an On Safari 2005!

Numerous awards will be presented, including awards for All Around Best Male and Female Congress Winners in all 3 classes, and an astonishing variety of Breeder's Choice awards. We welcome donations and extra category awards.

Banquet reservations are due by 10 October 2005.

OS Advertising

First of all, we've been asked by several people about the possibility of advertising on the OS video. We would like to have David Baur, our trusty videographer for two out of the last three years (Photoplay Film Production in Chicago) do our video again this year, and he has agreed. To cover the cost of bringing him (and all of his equipment) from Chicago to NY, we are going to need a substantial extra amount of money (the sale of the videos doesn't make anything extra - they are virtually sold at cost). So he and I discussed possibilities and he said that we could add in a limited amount of advertising to the 2004 On Safari video to cover the extra expenses. So here's the deal:

On Safari will sell 10 second slots for $80 each. So you can do just a still shot (like a one page advertisement), or a longer segment (like for a moving "commercial") for $80 for each 10 seconds of film (you'll probably want at least 20 seconds for a moving video ad). All ads must be photo ready for still ads, or submitted as a video (preferably digital) exactly the way you want it on the OS video. David will not be editing the advertisements - they will be added exactly as you send them.

Now, we don't want much advertising on this video, so the number of ads will be limited. They are being sold on a first come, first serve basis. When we reach our quota (that's up to David), then that's it. No more. Based on what happens with the awards, I know these will go fast. We will accept the first 20 ad segments for sure, but after that you will be on a list based on whether or not we have room on the video. Sometimes our videos run long and it's hard to come up with extra space - other times they are shorter and we have extra space. Depends on how fast our judge does the congress :-)!

As far as advertising in the booklet that's handed out at OS - that is also available for a whole page, photo ready ad. The cost is $35 for a black & white page and $65 for a color page. Stacy Camba (rockybengals@hotmail.com) is going to be handling the booklet. Contact her for further information.

Okay, hope this answers some of the questions about advertising for OS 2004!

Advertising prices:

Video slots: $80 for each 10 seconds
Booklet Black and White ads: $35
Booklet Color ads: $65
